El Banco de México inició el retiro del billete de 20 pesos de la familia F, el icónico papel azul con la imagen de Benito Juárez que circula desde 2007, la medida fue publicada en el Diario Oficial de la Federación el 10 de octubre de 2025, fecha en la que las instituciones financieras debieron detener su distribución al público.
Aunque su retiro será paulatino, el billete conserva su valor y puede seguir usándose en compras y pagos cotidianos, sin embargo, una vez que llegue a los bancos, será apartado, marcado como “en proceso de retiro” y enviado al Banco de México para su destrucción.
El cambio forma parte de la estrategia de modernización del sistema monetario, con la que Banxico busca reducir costos de producción y reforzar la seguridad frente a falsificaciones, además, se pretende sustituir los billetes de menor denominación por monedas o ejemplares más modernos y resistentes.
El billete azul será reemplazado principalmente por la moneda de 20 pesos conmemorativa y por los billetes de la familia G, quienes aún conserven ejemplares pueden usarlos o depositarlos sin problema, ya que seguirán teniendo valor mientras permanezcan en circulación.
