México se posicionó como el octavo exportador global de bienes vinculados a la Inteligencia Artificial (IA), con un valor de 100 mil millones de dólares en 2022, de acuerdo con el Informe sobre el Comercio Mundial 2025 de la Organización Mundial de Comercio (OMC).
Entre los productos considerados destacan semiconductores, computadoras, circuitos electrónicos integrados, dióxido de silicio, galio y germanio, insumos clave para la infraestructura tecnológica.
China lideró la lista con exportaciones superiores a 700 mil millones de dólares, seguida por Taiwán , Corea del Sur, la Unión Europea y Estados Unidos, Japón y Malasia.
La OMC subrayó que centros manufactureros emergentes como Malasia, México, Vietnam y Tailandia han aumentado sus exportaciones de insumos y equipos intermedios relacionados con la IA, lo que refleja una creciente integración a la cadena global.
En total, el comercio de bienes que habilitan la IA alcanzó 2.9 billones de dólares en 2022 y 2.3 billones en 2023, sin embargo, la disminución registrada el año pasado obedece, según la OMC, a restricciones comerciales, cambios regulatorios o acaparamiento estratégico.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, directora general de la OMC, afirmó que la IA puede impulsar el comercio de bienes y servicios hasta en 40% para 2040, pero advirtió sobre el riesgo de que trabajadores y economías enteras queden rezagados si no se cierran las brechas digitales y se garantiza un acceso inclusivo.
