El estadounidense Terence Crawford derrotó por decisión unánime a Saúl «Canelo» Álvarez y le arrebató todos los títulos de las 168 libras, convirtiéndose en el primer boxeador en la era de los cuatro organismos en barrer tres divisiones, superligero, wélter y supermediano.
La pelea comenzó con tranquilidad y estudio durante los primeros cuatro asaltos, pero a partir del quinto episodio Crawford siguió la indicación de su esquina y aumentó el volumen de golpes, mostrando velocidad y precisión que incomodaron al campeón.
Canelo respondió con combinaciones en el sexto round, aunque sin el mismo impacto en el público ni en los jueces, desde el séptimo asalto, el mexicano comenzó a mostrar signos de cansancio, mientras que Crawford mantuvo su ritmo, trabajando al cuerpo y dominando en el centro del ring.
El noveno round fue el más complicado para Álvarez, quien recibió una ráfaga de golpes tras el campanazo que encendió a los asistentes, en la recta final, Crawford dominó por completo y en los últimos segundos incluso puso en malas condiciones al tapatío, firmando así una victoria histórica que lo consagra como uno de los mejores libra por libra de todos los tiempos.
